YOUNG DEMOCRATS OF MISSOURI CONGRATULATE SEN. BARACK OBAMA AND CALL FOR PARTY UNITY
The 2008 primary season came to a close this Tuesday, bringing to an end what has been one of the most exciting moments in the history of the Democratic Party. This primary season has shown not only the strength and heart of the Democratic Party but also the American people's desire for change. Young Democrats across Missouri and across the nation know that we are ready for true progress and real change.
Over the past months, Senators Clinton and Obama have energized and inspired an entire generation of young voters. Our candidates have actively brought to the forefront the issues most important to Young Democrats - universal healthcare, affordable higher education, a clean and sustainable environment - and have motivated young people throughout the county to once again get involved in the political process. Both Senators are invaluable public servants with a passion for promoting what Democrats value most.
At this time the Young Democrats of Missouri would like to take the opportunity to congratulate Senator Barack Obama on the success of his inspiring Presidential campaign. On Tuesday, Senator Obama secured the requisite number of delegates to become the Democratic Party's nominee for President. Throughout the Presidential Primary, Senator Obama has proven his commitment to bringing about change that all Americans can believe in. It is now time for the Democrats across Missouri and the nation to unite behind Senator Obama and move our county forward. The Young Democrats of Missouri are committed to doing everything possible to ensure that Senator Obama becomes the next President of the United States.
"The conclusion of our primary season on Tuesday evening reminded me of why I am a Democrat." said Rick Puig, President of the Young Democrats of Missouri. "More importantly, our historic primary should make all Americans, regardless of their political affiliations, immensely proud of our great nation. It is important that all of those who made their voices heard in our Democratic primary unite behind our capable candidate and cast their votes for change in November."

YOUNG DEMOCRATS OF MISSOURI 2008 STATE CONVENTION: HISTORIC MOMENT FOR YOUTH POLITICS IN MISSOURI
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE : Drawing members from across the state, the Young Democrats of Missouri assembled at Webster University for their 2008 state convention. The Young Democrats convened at a time when the political landscape of Missouri is drastically changing and the stakes are high. Rick Puig, President of the Young Democrats of Missouri, saw the convention as a chance to foster the growth of the organization. “Our convention was a great opportunity for young Democrats across the state to reorganize and reenergize before the 2008 election,” said Puig. “We have sown the seeds of change and are excited about the challenges and opportunities that lie before us.”
Young Democrats attending the convention had the opportunity to hear from a number of candidates, including, Jeff Harris, Margaret Donnelly, Jeff Smith and Sam Page. Each spoke of the important role that the Young Democrats play within the Missouri Democratic Party. They also noted their firm commitment to progressing young political organizations and addressing the needs and concerns of students across Missouri.
This weekend’s convention also produced a new slate of officers. The new Executive Board is comprised of,
Rick Puig - President Chris Miller – Vice President Nate Kennedy – Chairperson of the Young Democrats of Missouri College Federation Aimee Koon - Secretary-Treasurer Sarah Rappaport – National Committee Person Tyler Thompson – National Committee Person Brian Roach – Communications Director Martin Casas - Finance Director
In a historic moment for young political organizations in the state, the Young Democrats of Missouri approved a new constitution that changed the organizational structure of two of the most prevailing youth associations in Missouri. Unanimously, members from both College Democrats and Young Democrats chapters across the state voted to reorganize the College Democrats of Missouri under the umbrella of the Young Democrats of Missouri as the Young Democrats of Missouri College Federation. This merger will allow Young Democrats organizations to economize their efforts and reduce unnecessary redundancies created as a result of parallel operation. Moreover, the merger allows individual chapters to simultaneously have access to the resources available at the national level through the Young Democrats of America and the College Democrats of America.
